Sports Complex Survey

We are inviting you to share feedback on the vision for a new sports and recreation facility that will serve athletes, residents and visitors for years to come.

We're gathering input through a short, anonymous survey open until September 14, to ensure this project reflects the needs of our community.

The proposed facility would include courts, indoor turf, sports training and the ability to host tournaments from across the region. This would position Rapid City as a hub for both local recreation and regional competition.

Myths & FAQs

During this entire journey, we've encountered common questions and misconceptions. We want to address those up front. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to reach out! We want you to have all of the information during this process.

This is going to raise property taxes.

This will not raise anyone's property taxes - This will increase sales tax revenue in the city that will help increase the city's budget.

We need to fix our roads first.

The sales tax revenue generated from this project will increase the city's budget that could possibly assist with the repair of roads as well as other city functions.

Can it host conferences in the offseason?

This complex is not equipped to host conferences as we have great conference properties throughout the city. This is a youth sports complex and recreation center.

Will there be a fee to use the facility?

There will be a fee to use the complex much like any community center. Those fees haven't been outlined yet but our goal is to make it as affordable as possible.

How can we incorporate some of the population that can’t afford a membership?

Our goal is to fundraise for scholarships, we want to include everyone, but this hasn’t been outlined yet.

How can we get public transportation to the complex?

We have already contact Rapid Transit and this is on our radar to come up with a plan once everything is finalized. Transportation is a BIG problem in Rapid City.

Will their designated courts and times for the public use?

We need to balance the public use and rental by clubs and organizations, but we will keep this in mind when we get to that point.

Will the Parks & Rec department run their programming out of the facility and if so, will the South and West Community centers be available for rent?

We are including Parks & Rec in this process to expand their programming by allowing access to them. If the P&R programming can live in the complex the Community Centers should be available for rent.
